Richard Soto is a professional actor, teaching artist, fight director and writer, who journeys where the stories need to be told. He has performed in theatres throughout Southern California, including San Diego Rep, The Old Globe, A Noise Within where he was a Resident Artist for 16 years, performing in over 30 productions and South Coast Repertory, which has been his creative home as an actor, stage manager and instructor for 30 years. His acting classes are socially active environments where students of all ages and backgrounds engage their creativity, expression and empathy. He is currently working on projects for theatre, television and film involving his passions of people, art, history, education, comic books and making the world a better place. Students from all levels of musical experience are welcome.

Adult Acting Class
The Academy's Director of Education is putting together a series of classes to build the skill set of novices and pros alike. At the very bottom of each page of our website is a "subscribe" option. After you enter your info whether or not you are already on our e-list , you'll see a page to "manage preferences". Check the box for "Classes" to join the group that receives updates about our education programs. This exclusive Master Class Program offers teen performing artists challenging and rewarding master classes in myriad fields of the creative and performing arts. The program provides students with discipline and purpose, stressing the importance of punctuality, performance, and etiquette. Inspiring creativity, we refine and focus the talent, commitment, and enthusiasm of our teens in a fun, nurturing environment; providing its students with a foundation to express, expand and explore their imaginations.

Those with no acting experience will find this is just the place for personal growth and development, whether polishing communication skills, overcoming shyness or just gaining a little spontaneity in their lives. Others with previous acting experience may just want to hone their skills. If you can speak, you can sing! Students from all levels of musical experience are welcome.
Our classes for seniors are designed to help transform attitudes toward aging to a new vision of continuous growth, and to honor and celebrate the sharing of rich and varied experiences of older adults. While most of our adult classes work best in person, we ask for your continued patience as we re-imagine classes for the virtual world. This course, geared at adults, will examine the history of the American Musical. Then, it will proceed discussing specific musicals and topics each week that are considered landmarks in the history of the American musical. Professionally filmed versions of musicals will be provided to students for viewing between classes.
